Free Meta Tag Generator: Create SEO Meta Tags for Any Page

Use a free generator to produce clean title, description, canonical and social meta tags, ready to paste into your page head.

Meta tags live in the head of a web page, invisible to visitors but read by search engines, browsers and social networks. Writing them by hand is fiddly: quotes need escaping, attributes need the right names, and one typo can break a tag silently. A meta tag generator fills in the syntax so you can focus on the words.

This guide walks through the free SeoSpidie meta tag generator and explains each tag it creates, so you know what you are pasting into your site.

The tags that actually matter

There are dozens of meta tags, but only a handful influence search and sharing today:

  • Title tag โ€” the clickable headline in search results and the browser tab text.
  • Meta description โ€” the summary shown under the title in many results.
  • Meta robots โ€” tells search engines whether to index the page and follow its links.
  • Canonical link โ€” names the preferred URL when the same content is reachable at several addresses.
  • Viewport โ€” makes the page display properly on phones.
  • Open Graph and X (Twitter) tags โ€” control the title, description and image when the page is shared.

The old meta keywords tag is ignored by Google and is best left out; it only tells competitors which words you are targeting.

Step 1: Write the title and description

Enter a title of about 50โ€“60 characters with the main topic near the start, and a description of about 150โ€“160 characters that tells searchers what they will get. The generator shows live character counters as you type, and everything runs in your browser. For writing tips and examples, read how to write meta titles and descriptions that get more clicks.

Step 2: Decide whether the page should be indexed

For most pages, the default โ€” index and follow โ€” is right, and you do not need a robots tag at all. Add a robots meta tag set to noindex by hand only for pages that should never appear in search, such as thank-you pages, internal search results or private landing pages. Be careful: a stray noindex on an important page is one of the most common reasons pages disappear from Google, so check your existing page for one before you paste in new tags.

Step 3: Set the canonical URL

Enter the full, preferred address of the page, including https://. A self-referencing canonical (the page pointing to itself) is good practice; it protects you when tracking parameters or session IDs create duplicate URLs.

Step 4: Add social sharing tags

Add your site name and an Open Graph image URL. The generator uses your title and description for the Open Graph tags too, so the page looks good on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and similar apps. Use an image of at least 1200 ร— 630 pixels. You can check the final card with the Open Graph preview tool before sharing.

Step 5: Copy the code into your page

The generator outputs a block of HTML. Paste it inside the head section of your page, replacing any older versions of the same tags โ€” two title tags or two canonical links send mixed signals. If you use a CMS, enter the values in its SEO fields instead of pasting raw code.

Check your work

Once the page is live:

  1. Preview the search snippet in the SERP preview tool to see whether the title gets cut off.
  2. Run the page through the free site audit, which reports the title, description, canonical and robots tags it finds.
  3. In Search Console, use URL Inspection to confirm Google sees the page as indexable.

Frequently asked questions

Do meta tags still matter for SEO?

Yes. The title tag is a ranking signal, the description affects clicks, and robots and canonical tags control indexing. The keywords tag is the one that no longer matters.

Where do I paste the generated code?

Inside the head section of the page's HTML, before the closing head tag.

Should every page use the same meta tags?

No. Titles, descriptions and canonicals must be unique to each page. Only tags like viewport and charset stay the same site-wide.

Is the generator free to use?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limits.
