How to Check If Image URLs Are Working in Bulk

Test a whole list of image URLs at once and find the broken ones before customers or Merchant Center do.

Opening image links one by one is fine for three images. For three hundred product photos after a migration, it is a day of clicking. The free SeoSpidie image URL checker tests a whole list at once and tells you which images load and which are broken.

For the causes and long-term fixes, see how to find and fix broken images on your website.

When a bulk image check saves the day

  • Before uploading a product feed to Google Merchant Center, Facebook or Pinterest, where broken images lead to rejected products.
  • After a website migration or a change of image hosting or CDN.
  • When importing supplier catalogues that reference images on the supplier's servers.
  • Before a campaign, to check the share images and banners you will use.

Step 1: Collect the image URLs

Get the full list of image addresses. Common sources:

  • The image_link column of your product feed or catalogue export
  • An export of your CMS media library
  • The page source of a specific page (search for img and og:image)

Each URL should be complete, starting with https://.

Step 2: Paste and check

Paste the URLs into the checker, one per line, and run it. Each image is tested to see whether it loads successfully.

Step 3: Read the results

You get a list of images that loaded and a list of images that failed. For each broken one, the most likely causes are:

  • The file was moved, renamed or deleted.
  • The URL has a typo or wrong letter case.
  • The host blocks access from other sites.
  • The URL is HTTP while your site is HTTPS.

Step 4: Fix and re-check

Correct the URLs in your feed or pages, re-upload missing files, or redirect old locations. Then paste just the previously broken URLs into the checker again to confirm they now load. For feeds, run the whole file through the Merchant Center feed validator afterwards to catch other attribute problems at the same time.

Beyond "does it load"

A working image can still cause trouble. While you are reviewing images, also consider:

  • Size. Merchant Center requires product images of at least 100 ร— 100 pixels (250 ร— 250 for apparel) and recommends larger. Social share images work best at 1200 ร— 630.
  • File weight. Very heavy images slow pages and may be skipped by some apps when shared.
  • Content. Product images should not carry promotional text, watermarks or borders, which feeds often reject.

To check how a share image looks in a link card, use the Open Graph preview tool.

Frequently asked questions

How many image URLs can I check at once?

Paste the list you need. Long lists take a little longer because each image is tested.

Why does an image load in my browser but fail in the checker?

Some hosts block requests that do not come from their own site, or require cookies. Feeds and social apps may face the same block.

Does the checker download or store my images?

It only tests whether each image loads. Nothing is stored.

Is the image URL checker free?

Yes, with no sign-up.
